    I think the best beginners book (and the one I learned with) is "The Essentials of Handspinning" by Mabel Ross. Mabel Ross was THE expert on handspinning. Some of her books are a bit technical - I like just to get on with it without measuring and counting, but this is excellent and very good value at only £4.90.
