woollywormheadWelcome.
What an amazing blog. I will be spending this evening reading it all (for anyone who hasn't seen it, it's HUGE, with probably a hundred links to this and that).
I'm interested in the Hitchhiker, I saw it in Spin-Off, but was too chicken to order one when I hadn't got past a drop spindle. I like the fact that it's almost normal to customise them, rather than having it in the nude, so to speak. A major factor in the choice of a Kiwi for me was the fact that it was so paintable. I didn't want a wheel which looked like everyone elses.

Hi Natalie and all, cheers for the welcome From browsing through the members' list, I know a fair few of you from various places
I'm still finding my way around the forum and will be posting a bit more frequently.
RE:- the Hitch-Hiker. I love it. Adore it. After painting, which yes is normal, I then made a slight modification so that it takes a jumbo flyer. Now I feel as if I've got a very versatile wheel. OK, so it's ratios are limited, but I'm not a very fine spinner and it wouldn't be a problem to get hold of a lace flyer.
The flyer unit is from an Ashford Joy. We needed to fashion the jumbo flyer from an old Joy shaft onto a Kiwi jumbo, which was a pretty easy job once Martin (P&M Woolcraft) had pointed us in the right direction. At least being Ashford parts makes it easy to get bobbins and stuff. It's a friction drive, which allows for it's compact nature.
And you can entirely blame Spinning Fishwife for it all, after she showed me her travel Louet...

Hiya! Thought I'd say hi as we used to go to the same s'n'b.
I wasn't spinning then, but knitting is COMPLETELY a gateway craft.
Good to see you

The Greenwich SnB? What a small world!
And you're spinning - great! Knitting definitely does encourage other crafts, which is fantastic.
