Wonderwool Wales

Hi All

I have just come accross this forum so thought I would join and tell you about Wonderwool Wales a Wool Festival in Wales.

I can see from the forum that you are all aware of Woolfest and most of you have attended it. Wonderwool Wales is part of the same project but takes place in Builth Wells in Wales on Sat 19th and Sun 20th May 07 @ the Royal Welsh Show ground.

2007 will be our 2nd festival and we hope to build on what we did in 2006. Wonderwool wales will hopefully have around 80 exhibitors selling fleece, fibre, yarns and products made from wool and other natural fibres. We also have a Wonder of Wool Competition and Wool School a series of Workshops and lectures. On this years list we already have Ruth Lee, Pauline Turner and Marie Threase Chaupin from the European Wool group.

PR has already appeared in some Welsh press and I have had confirmation that Spin Off and Simply Knitting will be covering us.

If you would like more information about the event both as a visitor or exhibitor please do not hesitate to contact me.

All the best.

Lee

Hi Lee - Stacey here . I nearly zapped you when I saw your username as it looked like spam Very Happy

I can vouch for what a good event Wonderwool is as I went last year - so did Sally. Hopefully I'll be having a stall next year Smile

Disappointed of Cledry. I've never got to zap a spammer Sad
sally

I traded there last year, it was great fun and I'm hoping to be able to come again. Is it too early to book again? I havent had any repeat booking bumpf through yet so wasnt sure when to start looking at a repeat stall Very Happy

I had a great time at Builth last time too. Would definitley go again - lots of fun from sheep to jumpers!
Bovey Belle

Me too - and next year I can home in on different fleeces to bring home too, instead of just getting wowed by the "pretty little coloured bits in bags" ! There's definitely something in the human psyche which responds to colour Wink

My mum wants to go this year too (it's catching!)

Wonderwool Wales Update

Just to keep the forum up to date, things going very nicely, Woolschool is looking much broader and varied, Wonder of Wool Competition has had lots of press and inturn lot of interest, exhibitors and demonstrators are growing by the day and hopefully we still have the fun factor with the knitted Garden on display plus Knit and Natter plus much more.

I will try and keep you up to date.

I'm still hoping to be there, unfortunately a major cash flow crisis (the blasted van) means I can't book my stall till the new year, fingers crossed they will still be able to squeeze me in.
cledry yarner

I've got a problem with the form - in the bit that askss about extra passes I don't know whether that applies to the kids or not (age 8 & 11) I emailed weeks back and I've phoned the number on the form but no-one has go back to me Sad
sally

Why not send the form in anyway with a note saying 'I assume those under the age of x are included, but let me know if I need to send top up money for them' or words to that effect? I've finally got enough money to write the cheque for my stall today, I was starting to fret I wasnt going to have the cash in time. Hope they still have room for me Very Happy
cledry yarner

Good thinking Sally - I'm also fretting about not getting a stall.

Hi All

Sorry for not getting back to you, if you have any problems in the future you can contact me on 01982 552224 or email leepr@powys.gov.uk.

As for the children ages 8 - 11 I think they are free.

There is rrom still available but things are hotting up here in Wales and i am ensuring that we have the best fibre fest in Wales to date.

We look forward to recieving your applications.

Finally, can i say happy xmas and new year from Wonderwool Wales.

Lee
cledry yarner

Hi Lee - merry christmas to you too.

I sent my application today so it should arrive within the deadline Smile
cledry yarner

Got my receipt today - am extremely excited Very Happy This is my first year being a real trader and I have my fingers crossed that it's going to go smoothly.
sally

ooh that was quick! mine was posted yesterday, so hopefully I'll hear soon. Are you camping again? We probably will this year
cledry yarner

I've booked a camping space in the traders/exhibitors bit where Anna Marie was last year (I think - she was in the livestock keepers bunkhouse thingy). They've got a nice clubhouse up there where they serve hot meals in the evening. That's going to be our one treat. It'll be ace if you camp as well.

Wonder if there'll be another fashion show Wink
sally

Didnt know we got an option, just ticked the £18 camping pitch bit, we will be in the passion waggon, so we are happy wherever we park Laughing Will bring homebrew and general delicacies, I can see a small and bijou party in the offing here Wink
cledry yarner

I didn't get an option - just assumed that the traders camping was 'up the back' as I saw loads of tents there last year Smile

I haven't got any homebrew but will try to think of some 'delicacies' Very Happy
sally

cool!

Great news about your applications, talking about food and drink, the building will have it's own light refreshments and i am also hoping to get a local company that makes and sells sheep milk ice cream.

sally

Excellent! Tea was a major excursion last year Laughing

HI All

I was wanting to pick your brains, I am putting together a Wonderwool wales Website and there is a possilbility that it will have a retail side to it, do you think people that attend Wonderwool wales would also go to the website and buy.

Any comments welcome.
Lee

I think its a really good idea, lots of people are taking up knitting again who haven't knit for years because of the internet and I'm sure that people would want to follow up the interesting suppliers they've found.

What were you thinking of selling?

Wonderwool Wales

Hi Stacey

It would be the exhibitors at the event offering their product, so instead of just having Wonderwool for two days a year if someone wanted more of any one product they could access it through the website.

??

Hmmm - sounds good. What commission would you charge?
cledry yarner

Lee - while we've got you here Smile...

I'm finding that many events now have mobile credit card terminals with either some sort of scheme that allows the punters to pay for goods from traders who don't have card facilities or allowing people to draw cashback on their cards (for a small fee) to enable them to buy something from a trader who is unable to accept cards. Is that something Wonderwool would consider doing in the future?
sally

Very good point Stacey! I'm another one who would love to be able to tap into something like this run by organisers at a big show.
12345

As the event takes place at the Royal Welsh Show ground I believe mobil cash machine are available.

I will make sure.

Oooh, you're right, you're not wrong! I'd forgotten about that Smile
sally

I had a few customers last year tell me the cash machines had run dry on the first day and werent filled up again. Whether that was true of whether they just missed the window of cash, I don't know, but I definately had people say they couldnt access more money.
cledry yarner

I rememebr hearing that as well Sally. Definitely something that RW need to look into.

Wonderwool Wales Update

Hi All

Just to give an update, we have now got 90+ exhibitors applied with more coming in all the time, I believe we are full but will still add anyone onto a waiting list if space comes available. The list is very wide and varied. The competition has been very popular and we have already started to recieve entrys. Woolschool is complete and I am happy to say that there will be 20 hands on activities to join in with each day.

All of the above info will be available on the new Wonderwool Website @
www.wonderwoolwales.co.uk from March.

Looking forward to a fun packed weekend.

Lee
cledry yarner

Fantastic Smile All very exciting. I've been reading that we can book spaces on woolschool courses on the site but haven't seen any way to do that. I want to book some places for the kids if I can. Will that be available on the new site?

Wonderwool Wales

You will be able to email in your bookings through the website or you will be able to down load the booking form, complete it and post or email it to us.
