The dropped spindle. Issue 1. June-July 2006

Today I have done no spinning at all.
I had planned to spin some green, rust and cream merino I got a couple of weeks ago, but ended up glued to the pc all day, so I'm off to play now.
The google ads haven't worked out that this is a site about wool, spinning wheels and creating yarn, so all the ads are about engineering which is quite funny.

Spent a good part of the afternoon housekeeping here and tweaking various sections.
May take some photos tonight so there are some pictures to look at too.
Has anyone been feeling creative today... or is it too hot and sunny?!

Lazed about for much of the day, in between walking dogs! Nothing creative done at all I'm afraid, but I did think about what my next inkle loom project would be, does that count! Laughing

Absolutely!
Part of the reason for starting the forum was to generate discussion about what we are all doing, and to have somewhere to post pictures to inspire everyone.

Sometimes when you are a beginner at something, and you see all the experts doing it so effortlessly, it can be a bit demoralising, so I intend to post photos of my first wobbly attempts at everything I try, not just the gorgeous bespoke final products. (Not that there are many of those yet!)

We are in the middle of the HUGEST thunderstorm at the moment. I'm just hoping I don't get a computer-blitzing power surge.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Spinning Fishwife

I just got back from Woolfest yesterday with three fleeces (North Ronaldsay, Hebridean and a grey Shetland) and a pile of other fibres, including a kilo of processed Gotland and a bag of indigo dyed mulberry silk and mohair curls. Where to start!!!!???? But alas, we`re off on a family camping holiday tomorrow so the stash will have to wait.

One of the highlights of the show, for me anyway, was being able to try out not one but two great wheels! I`ve only ever seen them in pictures, so to be allowed to try a modern repro one was a real treat. I made a right mess up of it the first couple of tries...then suddenly it all clicked and I was away. Now of course I want one. Anyone got a spare £650 (!!!!) they could lend me? And suggestions as to where I could put a wheel with a 48" diameter drive wheel?

The second one belonged to a group of historical textile artists that were putting on a display in full medieval peasant garb. It was a home made wheel and not as smooth...but I still want one.

Three fleeces!
I'm just thinking about my first one.
Not sure what to choose.
Off to post in the fibre section to get suggestions.
I have posted quite a few photos today, let me know if they cause problems for anyone.

There's a rabbit about 2 metres from my window, looking very interested in the lettuces..... gotta go!
