Spinning Cotton

Today I'm off to Alston Hall outside Preston to learn to spin cotton. Have had a go by myself and found it to be nigh on impossible so hopefully I can post tonight with my wonderful (!) creation. Or maybe I will have created new swear words. Who knows.

I am so jealous, I wish I could have gone aswell, both my mum and gran used to be cooks there, so I spent loads of summer holidays playing in the grounds, such a lovely place, hope that you learn loads

It was a really lovely day although the spinning of the cotton was horrible, I read sweet georgia when she did it and she said it was humbling and she wasn't joking but apart from that it was great.

Alston Hall is lovely though, everyone is so nice and the food is fab so I bet your mum and gran are great cooks. Maybe I'll see you there sometime, when you have a chance, with babies and everything!

Saw your yarn by the way and it looks lovely. I hope you do really well at the Reebok, I think you have an original product that will grab the knitters of Bolton's imagination!

We tried spinning some of this on the final day of our spinning course locally. You had to make little "poonies" (spelling?) from it on the edge of your carders, and then roll them up using a knitting needle. It spun quite nicely once you got the hang of it. I did draw the line at the denim "bits" we were offered though - imagine blue fluff and that was about it. One of the ladies tried carding it with wool, but wasn't that impressed.

I think its great though, being offered the option to learn to spin other fibres and I'm willing to give anything a go, though the denim fluff sounds particularly challenging!
