Pricing up a skein of woolWhat do you all think is a fair price for a 100g skein of hand dyed hand spun wool basing it on the minimum wage?

About 50 quid but we'll never get it
I've tried selling mine at about 6.95 which means I take a loss in terms of hourly rates but to be honest I think it's too cheap. I see other sellers charging 15- 20 a skein and selling loads . Either that or my yarn is pants.

Yes I saw around £15 quid and I did wonder that it was too much even though that still only works out at about the minimum wage time wise but I think that sometimes we under price ourselves. If we are to be seen as serious about our craft, we need to charge accordingly. I think if we don't charge what its worth people may think its naff. Which of course it is not! Would you consider pricing higher Stacey?

The Americans base pricing handspun on 15 cents a yard, so call it 10p per yard?
Or work out time at £6 per hour (including dyeing time) plus costs of materials plus 100% mark up.
Of course, it also depends on what it is. If it was a thick slubby singles at about 80 yards per 100g I`d expect to pay less than for 800 yards of very fine plyed yarn per 100g.
£15-20 per skein sounds about right to me for medium weight plyed stuff though. You could always write out a very basic scarf pattern for the yardage involved, photocopy it as a freebie and voila! Instant scarf kit. £20 for a scarf kit sounds much better than £20 for a skein of yarn to most people.

Yes I think thats a really good idea - some people don't want to design things themselves and it would take away that worry.
