New memberHi, my name is Jenny M Jones, I live in North Wales and have been felting for a few years and love it. I recently bought a spinning wheel and am trying to get to grips with it, my yarn is getting better but a lot more practise is needed!! I also weave on a rigid heddle loom and dye my own fibres and fabrics.

Hello from another newbie.
I'd love to hear/see more about your weaving. Its something I do occasionally on a victorian loom at work and I'm considering investing in a small loom myself. A local man weaves the most incredible stoles and scarves using angora and alsorts of other materials.
I'd love to have a go.

You have a loom at work?
Can I have your job please?
What kind of loom is it? Sounds like you are well on the way to getting your own and you'll have a good idea of what you want if you've done a bit of weaving already.

I'm an actor and in between proper jobs I work with various bodies (museum service, Nat trust, Eng heritage etc) bringing history to life.
One of the places that I work at a lot is a victorian working farm. Being a smallholder of 20 years I've picked up one or two of the required skills, butter making, animal husbandry, farrier work and various fabric crafts, along the way. This means that I get as much time as I want on the farm and get to 'play' with old looms, at lace making, rag rugs, quilting, dyeing, spinning etc etc.
You didnt ask for my life story did you? Sorry But thats the explanation and yes I am very lucky, my jobbing actor work is on a large farm with beautiful scenery and lots of goodies to play with!

Hi, Thanks for the welcome and hello to Stacy have been busy felting and revamping an ottoman, it's on my blog http://feltedfibers45.blogspot.com/ oh dear I am a bit confussed here, was going to tell you about my spinning learning curve but should I talk about spinning in the spinning section? I must make some prefelts today as I am going on a workshop on Saturday with the IFA, will let you all about it on my return.

pre felts are bits of semi felted felt. It's felted enough to hold together but not so far along the process that you can't add them into other pieces. If you want a very clean line of a shape, say a star or a big circle pre-felts are the thang.
Duno about IFA but I assume it's something like International Feltmakers Association.

Hi Stacy, I laid the fibres and wet the out one afternoon, felted the next morning and then finished off and steam pressed in the evening so I probably took about 8 hours in all but that is a rough estimate as I have yet to time myself properly
Hi Natalie, Prefelts are peices of felt that are half felted (untill the fibres are holding together) you can cut and apply them onto another peice of felt, layer them, cut into strips and weave etc.
I am a member of the IFA, they have regions all over and the meetings are great also the workshops. www.feltmakers.com[/url]
