My spinning book stashThought I would share the books that I have about spinning with you as I just love them!My favourite is Knitting with Dog Hair by Kendall Collins & Anne Montgomery, mainly because of the humour in it and also because it has some great tips on spinning. Even if you are not convinced about spinning dog hair, it is worth a look at this funny book! Another firm favourite is Pluckyfluff's Handspun Revolution, by Lexi Boeger. This is the book from the infamous www.pluckyfluff.com who is partly responsible for me learning how to spin my own yarns. This book isn't the most educational and is certainly not for the beginner spinner, but is fabulous for inspiration and giving you some skills to make more unusual yarns. Lastly, I love Spinning Designer Yarns by Diane Varney. It has some soud advice and pretty pictures. Whenever I get a bit stuck and want to know why something isn't working I consult this book. It isn't perfect, but is a great book to own! I hope that you are interested in these! |

I knew a lady who spun her dog's hair and made a lovely jacket. It was fine until the day it rained and she had to sit on a bus smelling strongly of wet dog. Pooooey

I intend to knit wiith my rough collie's hair once she has grown into adulthood (for those who don't know I was recently given a pup for my 50th!). I have that book and found it funny but also useful. Dog hair doesn't smell any worse than wet sheeps wool IMHO! 
I've also got the Diane Varney book, lovely book it is and very informative.

That is so funny about the lady on the bus! That would happen to me if I wore something made from dog.
Having said that, wool that still has a sheepy smell is horrid when it gets wet! Yuck! |

I quite like the smell of sheep but I come from a country/farming background so perhaps it smells 'homely' to me?

I agree about the Diane Varney book.
My undoing has been the twisted sisters sock book. Spinning with a spindle, dyeing, making socks, all in one place. My favourite photo in the whole book is the portable sock-making kit in the backpack with roving, dpn's, spindle and yarn spilling out of all of the pockets. n |
