My new loomFinally, I managed to save up enough for the Kromski rigid heddle loom, its a 32" the largest size. Some of you will know I had a large floor loom (Natalie saw it) and much as I really enjoyed using it it just took up too much space. This new loom folds up and has a warping board on the back.
I've never used a rigid heddle before so a new learning curve for me. Any tips and hints gratefully received!

I found what looks to be a very useful "how to" on Ebay, it looks clear and has pictures, hope to have a go today.

Well after much fiddling and profanities I managed to warp the loom (I need a lesson). I did a small scarf, the weaving took 1hr 30mns, the warping around 6 hrs! Daughter is wearing scarf so I can't take photo at the moment. It's a bit raggedy around the edges but recognisable as a scarf.
Practise makes perfect..........................

That's fantastic Kathy! Can't wait to see the pics.
I've done about an inch of weaving on my loom and I am absolutely besotted! I'm only doing practice pieces at the moment. I keep telling myself - I want to learn properly! So I'm not rushing into making a 'something'!

I love weaving too, very addictive and the time just flies by. Here is my pic, it's an old digital I have so photo's are rubbish! I used mercerised cotton for the warp and handspun (hubby's) for the weft, as I said, a bit rough!

I think that is gorgeous! I love the colours and the difference between the shiny warp and handspun. In fact, I think you've inspired me! Wonder if I have any mercerised cotton lying around...

Thanks Spinningsue, I like the way hubby blended those blues together and I'm always picking up mercerised cotton at charity shops so have a wee stash!
Thats me booked into the weaving workshop on Friday at Twistfibrecraft, must get this warping business sorted!

I've had my workshop and it was worth every penny as I was shown a method of warping called "direct warping" (Natalie, why didn't you tell me about this! ).
I also purchased the "Ashford book of rigid heddle weaving" which helped me to remember all the steps when I got home again. I'll get my son to take a photo of the scarf I made at the workshop with his good camera when he is home again.
I'm happy to pass on any help if I can so just shout if you're struggling!
