Monday 17th JulySo SF is jam-making. What kind will you do?
We got out first goosegogs last night, but not enough to jam with. Actually we are more of a chutney household. I like the Glutney recipe from one of the River Cottage books, adaptable for most gluts.

Chutney is always good, much more vesatile tham jam in my opinion
I got back from a job much earlier than expected, so housework is sadly my priority today

Today I made soap.
It's for a soap swap on another forum, and I thought it would be achievable in hopping terms because I could weigh all the ingredients out, then sit down, then melt and do the caustic soda, and sit down, (for ages as it has to cool from almost boiling to 60 C) and then mix together, check every ten mins or so, half an hour to trace. I thought I'd be on my foot so to speak for maybe 20 minutes spread over several hours.
Well the blasted stuff hasn't traced, has it?
The first time I made soap this happened. It was fine in the end, and was lovely soap, but I really don't want to be hopping about stirring pots of liquid soap all night.
The ones I have made in between times have been absolutely fine so it's just sods law.
Back to the wooden spoon.

Finally got to trace at 7.30pm.
I whisked it in the end
It's coffee grounds soap, and looks like a very large slab of chocolate now it's in the mould to cure.

We have a division of labour here I make the soap as I can do the anal measuring etc required and my next door neighbour does the preserving as he couldn't be the anal measuring type if his life depended on it and his laid back "chuck it in and see" works well for chutney - but he makes crap soap
