I did it!!!This is not good, not good at all. I foresee many weekends clothed in rubber gloves and face mask, standing in a kitchen which smells like a pickle factory.
It didn't go right first time but it was fun. This was my first attempt.
But the second and third were better.

I was a bit despondent with the first one, it looked fine in the pot and then when I got it on the line to dry it there were all these "bald" cream bits where I hadn't squirted enough dye.
The pinky one was much more satisfying, I was much more liberal with the dye. And the final rescue of the first one was quite successful. I'll reskein them when they are dry and post "finished" photos, I expect the colours will be paler... perhaps just as well!

You'll be amazed how rewinding the skeins to a slightly different size can make even the most disappointing yarn into something really pretty and exciting. When it's dry try it I reckon you'll be very pleasantly surprised.

I was looking at the skein now it's dry, (there are now more photos of it looking traditionally twisted up, if you know what I mean) and I think the shop have skeined it for sale, but on the same size (1.5m) niddy noddy I have myself, so I'm stuck as to how to reskein, even an extra foot would make a difference. I don't want to buy another niddy noddy. Any ideas?
I have looked and the only DIY suggesetion is plastic pipe, but I want to do it sooner rather than later, and can't drive at the moment.... help!

Don't buy a new niddy noddy just yet! You'll find that re-skeining them will redistribute the colours differently anyway as the wool shrinks slightly in dyeing. I wind my skeins on my 1.5m niddy noddy before dyeing and then re-skein them when dry on the same one. I never judge my dyeing until I have at least re-skeined it and, if I still don't like it, until I have knitted a swatch. So far, I've liked everything I've dyed after the re-skeining.
Wait and see, I bet you'll change your mind!

Thankyou. I'm really glad I had you to guide me through it all.
Spinningsue, I reskeined and they look quite different now, also knitted a swatch up in the blue-green-purple one and I think it will be fine.
Today my mum came over and we dyed some yarn she brought with her, a DK and a wool/mohair shaggy yarn done in the same pot so they could be blended together. The results are on the blog. Much hysterical giggling as we tried to work out the yardage and number of frilly rows we'd get from the furry yarn. I am not the best at maths.
Hob-Nobs were needed to aid calculations.
