Hello from Somerset

Hi, I'm Loz, I'm a college student studying, amongst other things, textiles.

I love all kinds of textiles crafts, knitting, patchworking, feltmaking, embroidering! I just really love to create things! Very Happy I've also recently really got into dyeing using natural dyes, it will be really good to meet some like minded people! Smile

Hi! I like dyeing but haven't tried natural dyes as yet but I really want to try it!

That's better, I remember the kind of exhaustion when I was pregnant, which made me just stop in mid sentence because I had gone onto half power. Last night was one of those moments... and no, I'm not!!!
I went on a dye walk with Twistfibrecraft just before I broke my ankle. It was interesting, hearing what could be used for what. And when I was at Celtic Connections at the beginning of the year (big folk festival in Glasgow), there was a display with a colour wheel of naturally dyed yarn. I really liked the pinky colours you get from oak bark.
If I was doing it at home though, I think I'd buy the prepared materials eg logwood chips, madder root etc. They (and I'm sure, other places) sell them in small quantities.
I think that when I start something new I have to do it in stages.
Stage one. Natural dyes using shop bought raw materials. get the method worked out, learn about mordants etc.
Stage two. Collecting raw materials to dye from.
Stage three. Spin my own yarn and dye it.
Stage four. Grow the plants etc.
If I launch in at stage three i would be worrying about wasting all that handspun, the time etc spent making it, and I think that would inhibit my exploration of what I could do.
