Hello from a NEEP! in AberdeenshireWhat a great idea for a site... I'm just about to receive three fleeces via a lady on freecycle and want to learn to spin! I'm literally starting from scratch as I have no equipment but would like to be able to make my own.
I hope you don't mind lots of questions from a newbie!!

Welcome! Ask anything you like, we were all beginners once and all of us are still learning

Three fleeces on freecycle, I like your kind of freecycle!
Had a wee look at your forum too, but I'm not a NEEP, I'm a CBEP (central belt) doesn't run off the tongue in quite the same way really!
So are you going to look for a wheel or a spindle? I think there's a branch of the spinners weavers and dyers guild in Aberdeen, or perhaps the steiner village at Newton Dee might be able to help?
Some of us are confirmed spindlers here, and some are wheelers and some are both. If you look in the spinning section you might find some inspiration there.

Hi Shirley - welcome
I was in Aberdeen till I was 10 and then I was whisked off to Cornwall. All my mums side of the family are there so we still go up form time to time.
Any idea what kind of fleeces you're getting?

I didn't know you were a Scot too! (I'm naturalised myself, having done it in reverse and arrived here when I was ten.)
You could come for a cup of tea when you are next travelling North if you like?

Thanks Natalie - I'll probably take you up on that
I consider myself dual nationality I was born in Cornwall, taken back to Scotland when I was 6 months and back down here when I was 10. All the family I had was left behind up there - just me and my mum down here
I'm all celt though

Welcome from another transplanted scot Shirley. Was raised in Derby till I was 11 and have been up here ever since, feel more Scottish than English.

Hi Shirley, just checked out your link to 'neeps'. I am in N E Scotland too, so I think I'll register.
If you want to learn to spin, pm me and I'll tell you about 'Common Threads', a local spinning, weaving, felting, dyeing etc group.
