Big plansNot quite sure where to post this, in the dyeing section or the yarn section or somewhere else.
Anyway. You made me do it, you lot, I hope you realise that.
You supported and helped and encouraged and said "go for it".
I never intended for this to happen when I set the forum and the blog up in the wake of a broken ankle, but it seems the dropped spindle is about to become a business too. I have just ordered my first 80 hanks of undyed opal sock yarn (should be here on Wednesday) and am experimenting with an online shop as well as using ebay.
I have noticed that the majority of supposedly hand dyed yarns on ebay are called Midsummer Night's Dream which is available from the opal wholesaler already dyed, so if it is hand dyed, it hasn't been done by the person selling it. There's another orangey one which falls into the same category.
"the dropped spindle" will consist of me, and my dyepot. All the yarns will be hand dyed using a combination of methods to produce completely unique yarns, even if I use the same dye colours on the same day, the yarns will be different because of the application method and the fact that liquid dye has a mind of its own once it hits the yarn.
I am now busy becoming a Jack/Jill of all trades and having to learn online shop customisation and book-keeping in double quick time.
Thank you

Hurrah! Well done
I was gonna dig out my cones and do some sock wool this week. Our stuff is different enough I think - I get so paranoid that people think I'm copying
I registered with the Inland Revenue today - that was scary

Hee hee.
What I said was that there is plenty of room for both of us. I can spin, but I have no intention of selling handspun yarn, I'm not good enough at it. I like doing it for me, but not for other people.
Colour, on the other hand gives me a huge buzz, I love dyeing, especially for other people, it gives me a chance to put together colour combinations I wouldn't wear, even though I love the colours.
If someone did a google search, even then they would be unlikely to find us in the same list, so I don't think that we are competition for each other... and even if we were, the world is big enough for both of us.
I'm sure we can learn from each other too.

Sorry I thought I pressed quote.
Blame my husband - he wafted past with fish and chips as I was posting.
You're quite right by the way natalie - It's just me being paranoid

a little healthy paranoia is good in a business, keeps you alert to what else is out there, but I think your styles complement rather than complete even if you were ever stall by stall somewhere
