I found this.
http://www.handspinning.com/lollipops/index.htm
There are lots of pages to browse through, including very good instructions on how to drop spindle.

One of my guild friends was spinning some very fine pure silk thread on one, and said it was really good. The "normal" ones are quite small at only 6 inches long, so good for silk and fine thread.
Part of the cachet of these spindles (the "retired" designs fetch lots on ebay in the US) is that they are limited edition. I have always thought that a gorgeous piece of wood beats a painted finish every time, but I have to say, some of these are pretty, and if they are good to use as well then perhaps I'll add one to my wish list.... but which one to choose?

I've just been to have a good look at the site. It's hard to see when it was last updated as many of the postings about date of manufacture etc seem quite old. Nonetheless it's an interesting site, especially the what makes a lollie section showing all the stages of painting a spindle... about 20 stages.

I was under the impression that the Lollipop spindles were no longer made and that`s why they cost so much nowadays. I could be wrong though.
