I spent Thursday afternoon dyeing and now have ten hanks ready, all have been reskeined (yesterday's job, it takes ages). They are awaiting their photo shoot today.
I was aiming for slightly more smudged colours and have a couple of soft greens, one with a paler blue accent, one with darker blue, two raspberryish ones, the colours that make you want to dip your finger into the yarn to see what it might taste of, one pinker, one more maroon, a gentle dusky pink/pale lilac one, a purple mixture and a bright blue/hot pink combination.
I feel very parental about them and am not sure at all about letting them out in the big wide world on their own. I am still steaming them to set the dye, and this slowed me down considerably, so today the microwave is coming down out of the roof. Six minutes vs 45, no contest really.
The next step is to do some minihanks, (this weekend) about 20m each and try different spacings in a more controlled way, and then knit them up into a huge tube to see how a centimetre here or there changes the knitted appearance. And then.... well that's it really. I have developed my own colour recipes now, and have enough dye stock solutions to get me started. So a week of knitting ahead, and a bit of photography and carefully written blurb so my website will hit all the search engines.
I'll post photos on my blog later, I need you all to participate in market research about colours.
I have to go public at this stage and say that I couldn't possibly have got this far without Leonie who has been full of positive support and thoughtful suggestions as well as being my own personal web guru and designer.
Other news. We have a mouse in the kitchen. So I think we need a mousetrap. Soon. I don't mind mice (or spiders). But not in my kitchen.
