Hello,

My name is Claire and I am a fibreholic Very Happy

I am 40-ish and married with a son of 11 yrs old. I love all fibre crafts: knitting, sewing, embroidery, patchwork and now spinning and weaving.

I have recently started with a drop spindle - my dh is a master joiner and has made me some. I have joined my local Guild too and am trying to find out about weaving but everything seems a bit technical to me.

I found this forum through Hello mango at the Angelyarns forum.

I hope to get to know you all soon.

Claire UK

Hello, now someone was looking for a drop spindle.. who was it? In the north of Scotland I think.
Does he make top whorls or the bottom whorled ones? And what kinds of wood?
He may end up with a few orders now we know about his skills!
Good to see you here.

natalie

He made mine from sycamore, cherry, oak, ash, pear, apple, mahogany, beech and antique pine. He also has some lime wood.

He is an organ builder so he uses these woods to make the organs, keyboards, pipes etc and also for inlaying, marquetry and veneering.

I hadnt thought of him makeing stuff to sell but if you want a piccy of his spindles I can take one. I dont know if piccys are postable on this forum though.

He is also making me a niddy-noddy and lazy kate from the schematic drawings in Alden Amos's book.

He made my drop spindle low whorl because I prefer it.

Basically, if its wood, he makes it (exept a spinning wheel for me, he wont do it cos it would take tooo long)

Pictures are fine, I use photobucket and then reduce the image to 50% using the edit function.
These do sound really interesting. Can he do top whorl ones too? I haven't used a low whorl one.
Put it in the spinning section or on the pinboard where we can put items for sale/swap.

Hi Claire, I used to be a member of the Coventry guild before we moved to Scotland twelve years ago. Say 'hi' from julie' to everyone for me. I joined a group called Common Threads up here because the guild is too far away. Smile
